The Role of Zakat in Alleviating Community Poverty
Keywords:
Zakat; poverty; empowerment; mustahik; walfareAbstract
Zakat is one of the key instruments in Islamic economics with great potential to alleviate poverty. This study aims to explore the role of zakat, particularly productive zakat, in reducing poverty levels in Indonesia. This research uses a library research method with a descriptive-qualitative approach, referring to relevant journal articles and academic books. The analysis shows that zakat, when managed effectively, can improve community welfare by providing consumptive and productive assistance. Additionally, the support of zakat management institutions and the awareness of muzakki to distribute zakat through official channels significantly determine the effectiveness of its distribution. Therefore, optimizing the role of zakat is key to achieving social justice and economic welfare for the poor (Ahmad, 2020; Yusuf, 2021).
